Shadowhunters TV Marathon Review

recent showcase TV TV Review

Today, I watched the complete season one of Shadowhunters. It is a TV series based on the novel series The Mortal Instruments by author Cassandra Clare. If you have not read the books but is familiar, you probably have seen the film adaptation entitled The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, as it is also known, is a better adaptation of the novel series, The Mortal Instruments. It follows the story of Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara) and Jace Wayland (Dominic Sherwood) as they try to rescue Clary’s mother, Jocelyn Fray (Maxim Roy) who was abducted by Valentine Morgenstern (Alan van Sprang).

Anyone who have read the first book in The Mortal Instruments series will find the TV adaptation a welcome version of the story. They remained faithful to the important aspects of the story and the changes are very acceptable.

I also liked how most of the actors were how I imagined them to look like. Dominic Sherwood as Jace Wayland, Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, Alberto Rosende as Simon Lewis, and Harry Shum Jr. as Magnus Bane, were simply a perfect match match with great acting.

Season 1 aired last year, 2016, with 13 episodes only. No doubt as a trial run since the film adaptation failed to recoup its budget. After watching the first season, I can say that it was a successful adaptation, finally.

Shadowhunters started its season 2 run on January 2, 2017 which will have 20 episodes total. It continues the adventures of Clary and Jace… but I won’t spoil you what season two is about in this post.
